Progress (its happening)

On Monday I posted about my plans to learn XNA and create a functioning Star Fox clone. After six days of work I am happy to announce that I have made a lot of progress. I have gone from drawing 2D triangles in directx to rendering models and terrain. As you can see in the above screenshot of the current version of the game, the models that my friend made are part of the game now. Last night I was able to get collision detection working. With this I was able to put together a rudimentary ”game” where the player avoids the balloons to get to the end of the plain.

I really didn’t  expect to get this far in the little time I have been working on this. But as far as I have gotten there is still a lot of work to be done. Next on my list is shooting mechanics and real enemy ships with actual AI. We still have two months so there is a lot of time to add more and develop it into a full game. Some of you may be wondering if there will be a download, and yes there will be, just not yet. Unlike some of my other projects, I plan to release it only once it has meet my teams quality standards, which will take some time. Thanks to the nature of XNA when I do release it might even eventually end up on the Xbox 360, who knows?
